Fertiberia S.A.
Fertiberia S.A.
Spain's largest fertilizer group, producing nitrogen and specialty fertilizers and industrial chemicals, with crop nutrition subsidiaries in Europe.
Company overview
Fertiberia S.A., headquartered in Madrid, is a Spanish fertilizer producer with nitrogen assets centered on the Palos de la Frontera complex in the province of Huelva and the plant at Puertollano in the province of Ciudad Real, producing ammonia, urea, urea ammonium nitrate solutions and other crop nutrition products for Spanish and European agriculture.
The Palos de la Frontera facilities have the capacity to produce 400,000 tonnes per year of ammonia, 250,000 tonnes per year of urea and 200,000 tonnes per year of urea ammonium nitrate (UAN). The Puertollano site produces ammonia at 200,000 tonnes per year and urea at 130,000 tonnes per year, and it remained in production when Palos was idled.
In September 2026 the company suspended ammonia and urea production at Palos de la Frontera, blaming what it called an unsustainable rise in European natural gas prices, which had more than doubled during the year, and saying it would evaluate resuming production once market conditions improve structurally. Fertiberia has also pursued low-carbon crop nutrition, winning the Promarca InovaCcion prize with PepsiCo for the Impact Zero program, produced from green hydrogen to reduce emissions in potato cultivation.
