Abu Qir Fertilizers and Chemical Industries Co.

Abu Qir Fertilizers and Chemical Industries Co. was established in 1976 and operates three production plants at Abu Qir near Alexandria, making it one of Egypt's largest nitrogen fertilizer producers. According to the company's 2025 corporate profile, its production capacity totals about 1.8 million tonnes per year and its output covers more than 25 percent of Egyptian fertilizer demand. Products are exported to Europe, the Mediterranean region, North and Latin America and Southeast Asia, and the company is ranked among Egypt's top 50 listed companies in 2025 by Forbes.

Abu Qir Plant I started up in 1979 with 1,000 tonnes per day of ammonia and 1,550 tonnes per day of prilled urea; Plant II followed in 1991 with ammonia, nitric acid at 1,850 tonnes per day and granulated ammonium nitrate at 2,400 tonnes per day; Plant III started in 1998 with 1,200 tonnes per day of ammonia and 1,750 tonnes per day of granulated urea. A UAN unit commissioned in 2006 was revamped to 2,000 tonnes per day in 2010, and an ammonia converter revamp completed in the first half of FY2025/26 added a further 200 tonnes per day of ammonia and 210 tonnes per day of urea capacity.

For the first half of fiscal year 2025/26 the company reported revenue of EGP 23.52 billion, up 86 percent year on year, and net profit after tax of EGP 10.01 billion, up 119 percent, supported by export volumes that grew 31 percent. Its shares trade on the Egyptian Stock Exchange under the symbol ABUK.
