Achema AB

Achema AB, based in Jonava, Lithuania, is the largest producer of nitrogen fertilizers and industrial chemicals in the Baltic states, part of the Achemos Grupė concern. Construction of the plant began in 1962 and operations commenced in 1965; today its production covers more than 40 products, with natural gas as the main raw material for ammonia and fertilizer synthesis.

Annual production capacities include 1,117 thousand tons of ammonia, 1,650 thousand tons of nitric acid, 1,336 thousand tons of UAN liquid fertilizer, a product it has made since 1995, 785 thousand tons of urea, 651 thousand tons of ammonium nitrate and 540 thousand tons of calcium ammonium nitrate, plus AdBlue and resin products. In 2024 the company reported revenue of €518.5 million, a loss before tax of €11.8 million, investments of €12.5 million and 1,172 employees.

The company exported to 38 countries in 2024, with France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland and Scandinavia as the main destinations and growing volumes to Australia, Canada and South America. Natural gas accounts for around 70 percent of fertilizer production cost, and the company commissioned a 6.7 MW solar park at the plant site in December 2024, expected to generate around 6,800 MWh of green electricity annually.
