Ravensdown Limited
Ravensdown Limited
New Zealand farmer-owned cooperative supplying fertilizer, lime and environmental soil-testing services to the agricultural sector.
Company overview
Ravensdown is a New Zealand farmer-owned fertiliser co-operative headquartered in Christchurch, supplying fertiliser, lime, agri-chemicals and environmental soil-testing services to farms across the country. After closing its Dunedin manufacturing operation at Ravensbourne, it consolidated manufacturing at Napier and at Hornby in Christchurch, lifting capacity at the remaining sites to about 550,000 tonnes a month, and continues to run the HawkEye digital farm-mapping platform alongside its spreading and agronomy services.
For the financial year ended 31 May 2024 the co-operative reported revenue of NZD 763.9 million, essentially flat on the prior year, on sales of 962,000 tonnes. Impairments of NZD 10.3 million arising from the Dunedin closure, the divestment of five lime assets and the sale of agritech subsidiary C-Dax turned a NZD 13 million operating profit into a NZD 5.4 million after-tax loss, and no dividend was paid for the third consecutive year.
In the year ended 31 May 2025 revenue rose 20 percent to NZD 917.2 million as volumes sold grew 8 percent to more than 1 million tonnes, and the co-operative returned a net after-tax profit of NZD 30 million after rebate. It declared its first shareholder rebate since 2022, at 15 dollars per tonne on qualifying tonnes, under chief executive Garry Diack and chair Bruce Wills.
