Chloride-sensitive Crop忌氯作物
Chloride-sensitive crops are those affected in yield or quality by the application of chloride-containing fertilizers. They include tobacco, potato, sweet potato, sugarcane, citrus, grape and tea.
Key points
- Typical chloride-sensitive crops include tobacco (where chloride affects burn quality), potato and sweet potato (starch accumulation), sugarcane and citrus (sugar content and flavour), tea and grape.
- Chloride-containing fertilizer is not unusable — it simply has to be matched to the crop. Potassium chloride costs significantly less than potassium sulphate and is the more economical choice on chloride-tolerant crops such as rice, cotton and maize.
- Under GB/T 15063-2020, compound fertilizers are marked in three chloride bands: no declaration of chloride up to 3.0%, low-chloride up to 15.0% and medium-chloride up to 30.0%; above 30.0% the product must be marked high-chloride. This marking is what should be checked when choosing a product.
- Under GB 18382-2021, chloride-containing fertilizer packaging must carry a warning statement and must not depict chloride-sensitive crops.
