Dangote Fertiliser Limited

Dangote Fertiliser Limited, part of Dangote Industries Limited, operates a granulated urea complex at Ibeju-Lekki in the Lagos Free Trade Zone, occupying 500 hectares and built at a cost of 2.5 billion US dollars. The plant was commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari on 22 March 2022 and has an installed capacity of 3.0 million metric tonnes of urea per annum, making it the largest granulated urea complex in Africa and, by the presidency's description, the second largest in the world.

The complex was built to end Nigeria's dependence on imported fertilizer and to serve export markets: by the time of its commissioning its products had already reached markets in the United States, Brazil and Mexico, with India also cited among export destinations. The company has set up a well-equipped fertilizer soil-testing laboratory to identify soil deficiencies and appropriate fertilizer blends, working with farmer associations, corporate farms, NPK blenders, development partners and state governments across Nigeria.

President/Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited Aliko Dangote described the plant as a game-changer capable of making Nigeria self-sufficient in fertilizer production with spare capacity for export to Africa and the rest of the world, generating direct and indirect employment and supporting the transformation of Nigerian agriculture, which accounts for over 20 percent of national GDP.
