Gowan Company
Gowan Company
Privately held crop protection company that develops, registers and markets off-patent active ingredients and formulated products in major agricultural markets.
Company overview
Gowan Company is a global, family-owned agricultural solutions business headquartered in Yuma, Arizona, in the heart of America's winter vegetable capital. Founded by Jon Jessen in 1962, growing out of his field-scouting business Growers Scientific Services, the company is led today by his daughter Juli Jessen as chief executive and specializes in developing, marketing and processing crop protection products, seeds and fertilizers.
The company's early strategy was to find under-served areas of the industry and revive active ingredients that had become low priorities for previous license holders, an approach that continues under its Muddy Boots culture of close engagement with growers and agronomists. Gowan has a presence in 19 countries, with products sold in more than 70 countries, and Gowan Crop Protection Limited in the United Kingdom supports the EMEA, LATAM and APAC regions.
In 2021 Gowan acquired Isagro, adding an in-house research and development center for molecule discovery and development. Recent moves include the acquisition of Ceradis in October 2025 and the assumption of United States marketing, sales and development of Brake herbicide and Bio-Tam biofungicide in November 2025, extending its positions in fungicides, herbicides and biologicals.
