Sumitomo Chemical Company, Limited, founded in 1913 as a fertilizer producer and headquartered in Tokyo, is one of Japan's largest diversified chemical groups, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange under code 4005. Its Agro & Life Solutions segment, which contributed 21 percent of FY2024 segment revenue, spans crop protection products, fertilizers, household and public hygiene insecticides, materials against tropical infectious diseases, and feed additives including DL-methionine.

For the fiscal year ended March 2025 the group reported sales revenue of ¥2,606.3 billion, core operating income of ¥140.5 billion and net income of ¥38.6 billion, recovering from a net loss of ¥311.8 billion in the previous year after short-term intensive improvement measures that included business divestitures and asset streamlining. The company forecasts core operating income of ¥150.0 billion for the fiscal year ending March 2026.

Beyond conventional crop inputs, the segment supplies public health products such as the Olyset insecticidal net used against disease-vector mosquitoes, and the group maintains crop protection research, registration and sales operations across Asia, the Americas and Europe. Credit rating agency JCR affirmed the company's long-term issuer rating at A+ with a stable outlook in October 2025, noting that the Agro & Life Solutions sector is being strengthened as one of the group's growth drivers in its medium-term plan through FY2027.
