Coated Fertilizer包膜肥料

A coated fertilizer is one in which the fertilizer granules are covered with one or more layers of a coating material, so that the barrier properties of the coating control the rate at which nutrients are released. Coating materials fall into two groups: inorganic (sulphur, phosphates) and organic polymers.

Key points

  • Release is controlled by physical barrier action, so the integrity of the coating is decisive: breakage during transport, storage or mechanical application directly alters the release curve.
  • Inorganic-coated products such as sulphur-coated urea and urea-formaldehyde slow-release fertilizers each have their own product standards and are not covered by GB/T 23348-2009.
  • Release rate is strongly temperature-dependent — the warmer the conditions, the faster the release — so 25°C laboratory data is suitable only for comparison, not for direct extrapolation to the field.
  • The accumulation of polymer coating residues in soil has become a notable environmental concern for this product class.
