Seaweed Extract海藻酸

Seaweed extract is a natural polysaccharide material obtained from brown algae and other seaweeds. It contains a range of active constituents and is commonly added to fertilizers as a biostimulant or synergistic material, most often appearing on the market as a water-soluble fertilizer containing seaweed extract.

Key points

  • The main sources are brown algae such as kelp and sargassum; the extraction route — chemical hydrolysis, enzymatic hydrolysis or physical extraction — directly affects how much of the active fraction is retained.
  • In fertilizers it is normally used as a synergistic material or functional additive in water-soluble products rather than as a standalone nutrient source.
  • Alongside humic acid and amino acids it is one of the mainstream biostimulant raw materials, and commercial products frequently combine them.
  • The difficulty of substantiating performance is the same as for other biostimulants: results vary with crop and stress conditions and reproduce poorly.
