Urease Inhibitor脲酶抑制剂
A urease inhibitor is a compound, such as NBPT, that suppresses soil urease activity and slows the hydrolysis of urea to ammonium nitrogen. Its principal function is to reduce ammonia volatilisation losses after urea application.
Key points
- It acts on urease rather than on nitrifying bacteria: it slows the hydrolysis step and primarily reduces ammonia volatilisation.
- Used together with a nitrification inhibitor it addresses two separate loss pathways, which is why combined products are common on the market.
- The benefit is greatest with surface or broadcast application of urea; deep placement already reduces volatilisation substantially, lowering the marginal gain.
- It is a synergistic material and likewise must not be counted in the declared total nutrient content.
